(By R.Nocongwane, Feb.22, 2016) E252 000 were collected at Mbabane derby gate between sworn rivals Swallows and Highlanders, the biggest in the local football calendar.
The two teams got E86 000 each after deductions. Over 8 000 supporters paid to watch the game at Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday for this SwaziBank Cup last 16 match that was eventually won by Swallows, courtesy of a Felix Badenhorst first half strike. A considerable amount of fans used illegal entry points to watch the game with some forcing their way to the stadium to take the numbers that watch the game to over 10 000.
The kick-off was delayed for an hour because of long queues from outside the Somhlolo gates.
Swallows Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana confirmed the figures and thanked the nation that came in numbers to watch the encounter – the biggest in the local football calendar.
