(By MM Khumalo, Feb 17, 2016) The Government of Finland through World Customs Organisation (WCO) has offered financial assistance towards the implementation of the coordinated border management through a trade facilitation fund worth over E53.1 million (EUR 3 million).
Speaking during the coordinated border management report back session held yesterday at Mountain Inn in Mbabane, WCO expert Mika Poutiainen said should the authority require further assistance they should approach them for help.
“We have a EUR 3 million (E53.1 million) fund to facilitate trade in southern Africa and if there’s a need for further assistance please do not hesitate to approach the WCO for help,” he said.
SRA Commissioner General Dumisani Masilela appreciated the support of the Finish government and WCO.
“Let me express my utmost gratitude for their ongoing support to our initiative to develop a national consensus on how the border control interventions of the various agencies can be effectively coordinated. This is necessary to maximise trade facilitation without compromising controls,” he said.
He said the WCO and the Finnish government arranged visits to Finland for them to experience how border controls were coordinated there.
